The natural materials make it hypoallergenic. Production of latex material originates from rubber tree sap and usually contains less or virtually no chemical content. Most allergy sufferers will be relieved to know there is a mattress for them. The Latex rubber material is also very resistant to the spread of microorganisms like microbes and molds, and dust mites.
The latex pinhole cores holes are a principal part of what makes the substance so breathable. Regulation of temperature is done by effectively flowing air in and out of the pinhole cores and the open cell material that can be comfortable any time of the year.
During the manufacturing process, you will be glad to know that there are no harsh chemicals making it not only sustainable but environmentally friendly.
There is some controversy about whether all natural latex mattresses can trigger allergic reactions. Since the mattress does not contain chemicals it is naturally non-allergenic, but there is still the possibility that it could incite an allergy. This allergic reaction some may experience may be caused by an allergy to the latex material itself.
Industry professionals say to wait a minute before you decide this is not the material for you. In most cases, latex allergic reactions are a result of the protein found in latex. The majority of mattress manufacturers claim that the protein is removed by washing it. Interestingly the industry claims that a latex allergy is only set off with other products usually related to the medical profession like latex gloves, but not with latex mattress foam.
I am not a medical professional nor do I claim to be one. If you react to latex due to an allergy, it might be best to steer clear of this kind of mattress or pick up a free sample of the latex at STLBeds. Finally, discuss it with your doctor or allergist.
In most cases, you will never come into contact with the latex because it is wrapped up inside the mattress.
There is a way people can still experience a few of the benefits from this type of mattress, by either using one that does not contain the proteins or one that has been constructed from synthetic latex. If your physician understands this product and is well informed about it they should be able to tell you if this mattress is safe for you. Personally, I know of no reactions to these mattresses. If you can use it in my opinion the all-natural product offers more all-around benefits.
The first time you open the packaging of the mattress you may notice a latex smell similar to that of handling rubber bands. The scent is natural and not chemical off-gassing and please keep in mind that with all new things including all other mattresses, there is usually some kind of smell that is evident. Although not harmful some people may notice it. There are manufacturers that create smell-free or low-odor latex mattresses.
I am no expert on this but have heard of some home tricks you can do to reduce or eliminate smells. The all-natural latex rubber STL Beds uses from Land and Sky has very minimal odor if any odor to them in my opinion. That is saying a lot ask anyone who knows me. I have a big nose that is pretty sensitive to smells.
