Mattress Sleep Studies on Memory Foam Mattresses

Sleep studies are not only for finding sleep disorders and for why you don’t rest well at night. Sleep Disorders Center of Alabama conducted a study of how people rest on memory foam mattresses.

This sleep study was made with 149 participants and it involved in-depth questionnaires before the sleep study and afterwards to determine how well people sleep on memory foam mattresses.

Of the 149 participants, the majority of 126 reported that they had never slept on a memory foam mattress at any time before the sleep study. An overwhelming 70% of participants reported that they noticed a definite reduction in needing to shift around, toss, and turn at night while on the memory foam mattress.

The majority of participants at 91% noticed a large reduction or even a resolution in pain while in the sleep study. These people normally witnessed pain in the head, foot, neck, hip, back and overall general stiffness of the body when sleeping on their own mattresses at home.

Participants agreed that a memory foam mattress made them feel well supported in their entire body and 91 percent would recommend this type of mattress for anyone who has sleeping problems.

The conclusion over the 9-month span of the sleeping study confirmed that about 70 percent of participants had trouble sleeping before the study and 91 percent would recommend a memory foam mattress to anyone seeking to purchase a new mattress for the ultimate comfort and the best night’s sleep possible.

What is Memory Foam?

The earliest use of memory foam was seen in airplane seats that were designed for NASA in the 1960’s. It is made from viscoelastic and found to be especially energy absorbent and soft at the same time. Memory foam distributes your weight evenly by molding to your body in response to your pressure points to support all areas of your body.

Other applications where memory foam was used include cushioning in shoes and helmets, prosthetics and in response to pressure ulcers for people who are medically disabled and require a very soft seating pad.

Memory foam became a common household word when it started being used in bedding products of pillows, mattress pads and mattresses that are all available in different densities and depths.

How Does Memory Foam Work?

Memory foam mattresses react with the heat from your body to soften the mattress in the areas where you need it most. It conforms to your body to support it along all the natural lines and curves of your body no matter what body’s shape or weight. This helps to relieve widespread pain that many people experience when sleeping on other types of mattresses. According to the National Sleep Foundation, most people think that a very firm mattress is better for everyone, when in actuality a giving mattress may lead to much better sleep for people who suffer with back pain.

Minimizing movement in older people can help them to limit the amount of times they wake at night and give them the rest they need for the next day’s activities. Memory foam mattresses can also minimize the awareness of a sleeping partner’s movements at night so that couples can both get more rest.

Consider adding a 4-inch foam mattress for your child’s bed so that they can rest deeply and most probably longer each night. The Natural Sensations line of memory foam mattresses are the ultimate choice in a premium mattress for the best sleep. In addition to the exclusive memory gel foam, you get peace of mind on these mattresses because they are made in the USA with natural organic cotton and safe FR fiber for safety from harmful mattress components.
